Hank's party this year was train-themed, so I tried to do a couple of crafty things to make it a special day for him. As you all know, the little man is train-OBSESSED... I had fun doing these little projects for his party while he napped, so I thought I'd share.
We covered the table with craft paper and I drew train tracks around the edge of the table. The kids could decorate cut-out trains with stickers, crayons and train stamps.
The food had a little bit of train influence as well - we had PB&J sandwiches cut into train shapes and the favors were train brownies and lollipops tied up with ribbon and a little wooden train cutout.
The food was in front of the window, so I couldn't get a really great picture since the sun was shining in (yay!!)... But, you can kind of see in the window the train "mobile" that I made from old manilla envelopes.
Last year, I made Hank's Happy Birthday bunting and birthday hat. We'll be using these til he's an adult! The colors were perfect for our turquoise and blue color theme :)
Another little craft that I tackled for the party was his birthday wreath. I covered a foam wreath in tulle and tied it with a ribbon, attaching one of the manilla folder trains with a pin. Super quick and simple thing to do. Another great thing about the wreath is that since it's red, we'll be able to use it all year - Valentine's Day, Fourth of July, Christmas, etc.
And last, but not least, the cake... Not homemade AT ALL! We got it at Costco... As I was contemplating the designs that they offered, I just couldn't settle on one, as they didn't really have any that were train-compatible. Until the "Over the Hill" cake caught my eye. Yep! Just asked them not to put the words on the hill. When I got home, I added a little Thomas toy, and voila! A cake that Hank LOVED!!
