THOMAS

If you've read more than one post of this blog, you know that Hank is kind of a big fan of trains. Thomas the Tank Engine and any of his Friends, to be more specific. A few month ago I learned that a Day Out with Thomas was coming to a railroad museum in Union, IL, a town about an hour outside of Chicago. You can bet that I purchased tickets to this little Hank paradise just as soon as I could.

These first two pictures sum up how much he enjoyed the day with his pal Thomas. The first one is on the way there, the second, on the way home :)

Since the tickets to this little Thomas extravaganza were for the end of August, I assumed that we'd be dealing with weather - I figured it would be hot hot hot. I hadn't accounted for a freak summer thunderstorm. As we stood in line, the first drops fell, so we donned our fashionable rain ponchos and made a mad dash for the Thomas (merchandise) tent as the skies opened. We spent close to an hour in Thomas Heaven and collected a few things to buy while waiting out the storm. Craig was veeerrrryyy popular with all the dads as he had the weather radar pulled up on his phone.

We could finally wait no longer and made our way to the train. Craig stayed behind with Bill so he didn't have to wait in line in the rain. Hank and I waded through ankle-deep puddles, waited in the rain and then boarded the oldest train I've ever been on. Hank loved it!
Here he is checking out the crane engine that was parked on a siding next to our track.
Watching Thomas!
So excited to play with his fave purchase of the day - his new engine Emily.
Walking through an old turnstyle... again and again!
Oooh, model trains. A favorite for sure.
Watching Thomas chuff along the tracks.
Bill had fun too, as always!
All in all, it was a super successful day! I have a little video from the day too. I'll try and get that up sooner or later :)

Looking forward to next year's Day Out with Thomas already!

Will is 7, and *STILL* loves Thomas. We don't do the "Day Out"s anymore, but they were PURE MAGIC for us for 3 years! We went to 3 different locations - Huckleberry Railroad & Henry Ford in MI and Tweetsie Railroad in NC. Tweetsie was, by far, the best! (I think it was b/c of the open windows on the train - yay, fresh air! :-D)
